Default $3.5K for H/C installation labor?

I couldn't believed that it costs so much for labor to install H/C. Any advice for Do-It-Yourself?
Thanks.

It shouldn't cost anything close to that! Around here, professional H/C installs cost $1000-$1400 (not including tuning). I bet you can find a better price in your area if you make a few phone calls to some of our sponsors. It's not that hard to do yourself if you've got some basic mechanical skills and the right tools. You should take a look at JMX's website (www.ls1howto.com) for outstanding online instructions.

Good Luck, Ken

sounds about right for a package deal where all the parts were included.

if it was just for labor, keep your eyes on the place because it will be for sale soon

Yeap, it's just for labor and tune. H/C packages are seperate. Thank you all for your responses.

Please post the name of the shop that quoted that price. That's just crazy, and a rip off.

Some places will jack up the labor cost so high so they deliberately won't get some types of jobs. They think that they could have problems doing a performance H/C job and worry about the customer coming back with problems and the shop winds up losing money on the deal.

$1,500 or so including a dyno tune is more like it. $3,500 including parts maybe.

It's one of the biggest vendor by my house and the place that I always shop. Sorry, I don't want to name them cause I don't want to create a big fight. Thank you all! At least I know I won't bring my car to them. Have a great Holiday.

P.S. Do I need to tune the PCM right after DIY the H/C? Cause I want to drive up to Andy and let him tunes for me.

HHMMMMMM.... WCC or CM. Your idle will suck, but Andy and Charlie are the ones to tune it. For that matter, let A&A do the install for you.

That's a deal and a half.

A local guy wanted $650.00 labor to install a torque converter. Did it myself.
