Anyone use an Equus code reader before? Is it a good one? JC Whitney has it on sale for $99.99 right now. Regular price $169.99. Sounds like good deal if the reader is any good. Anyone have the scoop on a good code reader.

EQUUS makes two very good OBD II code readers, the 3100 ~ $100 and the 3110 ~ $175. Whitney doesn’t say which one they are selling for $99.99, but if it is the 3100, it is not CAN (Controller Area Network) compatible. You can go to the EQUUS website and check them both out and also get a list of vehicles that require CAN compatibility.
There is a link under the 3100 model that tells you which vehicles require CAN… like most 2005 GM vehicles. http://www.iequus.com/item.asp?cid=7&pid=3100
The 3100 and the 3110 are for 1996 and newer vehicles, but only the 3110 has CAN capability. I have the 3110 and think it is a great piece of equipment and very versatile.
(BTW, ~ $100 or less is the going price for the 3100 at most online parts houses.)
Thanks for the all the info. You learn something new every day. Doing a little more research I think the Auto Xray scanner is probably a much better tool to have. You get much better info.
