Default Help?? Anyone??

I was driving my car one day doing nothing out of the ordinary and I tried to shift from 4th to 5th. It would not go into 5th gear. It wouldn't go into any gear. In fact, it would not even leave 4th.

I coasted the car home and was fortunate enough to be able to sail right up through a smooth lawn through my back yard and into my driveway where she has been now for some time.

When parked, I turned her off and then reattempted shifting out of 4th. Only with great effort could I barely get it into 3rd. Now I can also get reverse but only with tremendous difficulty. Also, if I leave it idle in neutral without pressing the clutch pedal there is a high pitched sort of grinding/whine noise.

To try and dispell some of the obvious responses:

- I am depressing the clutch pedal.
- There is nothing unusual in the DIC.
- It is the same whether the car is running or not.

Any help or insight anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Gerry, the first thing I would try is to determine if in fact the clutch is disengaging. You could try pumping the clutch to see if that makes a difference. If this allows you to engage and disengage the different gears, you're probably looking at a leaking slave or clutch master cylinder. How does the fluid in the clutch master cylinder look? Clear, cloudy or dark?

Also you didn't say whether or not you have an aftermarket shifter. There was a recent post regarding some of the bolts internally coming loose and keeping the shifter from working.

It would be helpful to know what year Corvette you have and the mileage as well as any mods that might affect the problem.

Good luck... GUSTO

a bent shift fork sounds like your problem.

I do not have an aftermarket shifter. The car is a 2003 Z06 and the only mod I have in the drivetrain is the skip-shift edit.

I double-checked the clutch engage/disengage. There are no problems and the fluid levels/condidtions appear to be normal.

skip shift disconect.... the skip shift allows only 1st to 4th i cant see how if this was put in it could cause this but...... might be worth a check. try taking it out and see. should be just a simple connector to connector. if it had a aftr mrkt shifter i would think the bolts came loose. maybe, maybe something slipped in the linkage and it thinks its half in half out of a gear or two gears. i had an old car that when the transmision was low on fluid it did this excact same thing. did you check the tranny fluid??? i would think you would know if it leaked, except you say you where driving along when it started. good luck, thats all i can think of!!!!

sounds like you lost your hydraulics.... were you able to pull it out of gear on the way home and manually shift without using the clutch?
