Default Gripp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!

I need some grip guys. I have a 2003 Z06 with a halltech stinger ssm, b&m short throw shifter, and BB Bullet exhaust. It is about normally 30 degrees here and I cant get any grip through 3rd gear!! I will spin like crazy. During the summer I would churp tires through 3rd but not burnout basically like im doing now! I want to keep my stock rim sizes. What is the grippest tire that I can get. I dont want a drag slick but I really am not concerned about the twisties and turns I just want straight line performance. I need some rubbers(haha) so help me out !!!! Ive heard good things about Nitto NT01's but im not sure if they come in the correct tire size for my rims. Also how much will the tires cost? Thanks a lot, Jason.

What tires are you running now? I am assuming the stock goodyears? Unfortunately, cold tires don't really grip, period. If its one thing I have learned about my car, and C5s in general, they can be burnout machines if you want them to be. I don't really have much insight with straight line tires, so my comments probably don't mean much. The best all around tire I have run, tho never on my C5, was the Bridgestone S-03 pole positions. They seemed to stick the best in cold weather and even withstood the heat at the track relatively good. I've heard good things about the Nittos you are talking about, plus I think they are pretty cheap...maybe worth a shot. G'luck with your search and keep us posted, just be careful with a heavy foot and cold tires, they sure can get you in trouble in a hurry

Unfortunately during cold weather, traction is going to be difficult regardless of the tires that you run. In my SS (with 17/315 Nitto DR's) on cold nights (35 degrees and below) I could punch it in 3rd gear at 45 mph roll and literally send the ***-end sideways...and that was in 3rd gear! Cold rubber = Hard rubber and Hard rubber = No traction. For you math whiz's...If A=B and B=C then A=C

I have the 555 on the front and the NT01's on the rear and love the handling of these tires, as far as traction I do not have any no longer that I have over 700 rwhp, but the Nittos are a great tire.

Why do you have different Nitto's front and back.....thought this was never a good idea.

I'm looking for more grip too....

I think he was kidding -- Blizzaks are snow tires.

But, if you're going to get snow tires, get four.

I have seen others with two different brands of tires on there cars and I just decided on my own to but the longer wearing ones on the front and the very soft grippers on the back. After 1k I do not see any handling issues and I have had the car out in the hill country around San Antonio, checking out the cornering ability and they seem to be just perfect for me (if I was into road racing I would have went with the NT-01s all the way around). The NT-01s are much sticker than the extremes and I need all the help with traction on the street that I can get. But what I have found out is with 700+ rwhp there is no traction on the street until somewhere in third, oh did I tell you I love sick hp and it is growing on me everytime I drive my car

Thanks for the info......

I do want my tires to work good at HPDE events as I will be doing about 12 this year. It would be great to run a sticky tire in the back with the cheap Khumo up front. The front Khumo's last forever!!! I am just afraid of of high speed turns/sweepers with front/rear tires adhesion differrent. Maybe I should ask in the AutoCrossing & RoadRacing forum.

255/40/17 up front and 285/35/18's out back. I am concerned more with straight line performance than autocross runs. I believe that the DR compound does not have enough sidewall strength to endure road racing and is geared specifically towards straight line grip. Anyone?

Look up JCSBlown he is running NT-01s all the way around and he runs the canyons in Southern Cal. The 555's are a good front option in my opinion and the NT-01s are not a true DR so they are very good for AutoCrossing
