Default 295x35x18 Tire Weight !!

I thought it would be easy to find out actual tire weights for rear Z06 size. I am trying to compare wieght of the F1SC vs the Khomo MX.

Every source I check gives different results. Here is what I have found so far.

Tire Rack:
F1SC....33#
MX.......30#

America Tire:
F1SC.....29#
MX........31#

General Section Sticky:
F1SC......25.5
MX........31

John at CCW:
"F1SC much lighter than MX"

.........................??????????????? ?????????

DH,

From the Kumho site 30.5 lbs

http://www.kumhousa.com/Products/Ptn...D=1&PtnID=KU15

Goodyear website doesn't list weights , so I might think TireRack is close.

I guess ya gotta believe the Khumo site at 30.5 is within .5 lbs of what everyone has listed.

But TR has the SC at 33....heavier than the Khumo .... so I don't think we can trust that number.

You would think that with all the people using and selling the SC for years now that it would be easy to get an exact weight for this tire........

You're only talking 3 lbs and GY has always been a heavy tire. Just the fact that they don't advertise it tells you something. I'd put my money on TR's numbers.

Whats the purpose of saving 3 or 4 pounds per tire??

I mean, doesnt that really only matter if your professionally racing for a living? Whats the most you could reduce your times? .010???

This isnt a flame. I truely am interested as to WHY the couple pounds of weight really matters so much?

well every pound matters. Every 100lbs is roughly .10 seconds in the quarter so a 11.05 can turn into a 10.95 which looks way better...

I don't drag I go to open track (HPDE) events.

WEIGHT does matter in ALL respects of performance.

The tires are the most detrimental unsprung weight as it is furthest from the axle.........

If you're road racing/tracking the car it matters. First, the weight of a tire/wheel combo is what is called "unsprung" wt in the suspension. It affects how well your suspension responds to irregularities in the road surface, i.e. how well your tire stays in contact with the road surface. More contact, better traction, better handling, faster times. More unsprung weight needs more control (read stiffer, heavier suspension) to overcome the extra inertia as this mass moves away from the surface (bump), and to return it under control so car doesn't bounce and bob. Ideally, the body of the car should stay level over irregular road surfaces and changes in acceleration.

Second, the weight (or mass) also affects the rolling moment of inertia, or how quickly the wheel/tire can spin up and spin down. More mass requires more HP/TQ to increase rotation or RPM, and bigger/stronger brakes to slow it down. As a point to illustrate, my C6 Z51 made 374 RWHP with the stock wheels and SC EMTs. When a set of larger aftermarket C6 Z06 wheels with larger BFG T/A KDW2s were installed, it lost about 9 RWHP (the stock wheels and GY SC EMT tires were heavy too). Lighter wheels/tires mean you can accelerate quicker out of a turn, or get the jump in a drag race, and wait until later to brake going into a turn. My '00 FRC with Mag wheels and Kumhos MXs, and stock brakes (race pads) at 330 RWHP does a great job of keeping up with much higher HP cars on the track (at least so far!).

The car also just feels more responsive where ever you drive too. Hope that helps some.

Here's a couple cut-n-paste items from it:

30 lbs, 295/30R18 - Bridgestone Potenza S02 - Src
29 lbs, 295/35R18 - Bridgestone Potenza S02 - Src
TBD lbs, 295/35R18 - Kumho Ecsta ASX - Src
30 lbs, 295/35R18 - Kumho Ecsta Supra - Src
31 lbs, 295/35R18 - Kumho Ecsta MX - Src
26 lbs, 305/30R18 - Kumho Ecsta V700 - Src

The list could be more complete for Z06 sizes, but I've already reached the upper limit for thread postings, so I'll have to get a little creative if I'm going to add more.
