MY OIL PRESSURE SENSOR WAS PEGGED AT 80.I CHANGED THE SENSOR WITH BORG WARNER IT WORKED FINE WHEN I CRANKED IT ABOUT 35 PS1 IDLING.DROVE IT A FEW MILES IT WOULD GO TO ABOUT 45 50.DIDNT DRIVE IT FOR TWO DAYS.THEN I GOT IN IT AND IT WENT TO 80 PSI AGAIN THEN WENT TO 0.AND HAS BEEN AT 0 MOST OF THE TIME EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE PEG TO 80?BAD SENSOR?
I'd put my money on a bad sensor. The first one I replaced lasted a whopping 1 day. During that day it would work, go to max (80) and also drop to zero. At first I thought I had a loose connection or something. Turned out to be the sensor.

I keep hearing about bad sensors especially the GM replacements...so is there a "Cadillac" of sensors out there we should know about? I would have thought the BW ones would have been close (assuming that's what the problem is)

My understanding is that sometime in the past GM transferred manufacturing operations for the sensor to Mexico. The first batches that came out of the plant had 'issues'. Supposedly they've since identified and corrected the manufacturing issues, and the sensors coming out of that plant now are good.....just what I've heard.

I had this happen to me today.. scared the **** outa me. I ended up driving my roommates cavalier home for xmas. I guess i will check the sensor on moday when i get home. How many oil pumps quit on these cars? Is it a normal hole the sensor goes into so i can hook up a mechanical gauge up to it when i get home to ensure i do have oil press.

I've heard of the bypass valve on Z06's get stuck open and lowering oil pressure. Haven't heard much about complete pump failures. Don't have the size offhand, but the OP sensor is a standard NPT thread. Keep in mind, you'll have to 'adjust' (partially remove) the intake to get to it; therefore it would be just as easy to install a new sensor while you are at it.
