Hey whats going on everyone, i have a 99 c5 and i've been doing some research and i see alot of people have custom speaker mounts for there component speakers in the door. I've been looking online and i cant find any place that sales them, if any body could help me out with this that would be great. Or if they could shoot me some directions how to construct my own. Oh yeah its for 6.5" Infinity kappa component set. thanks ...
Use some thin plywood (1/2'' or less) or mdf and trim it to the same shape as your bose woofer. drill all the holes in the same spots and use all the stock hardware. Use some foam tape to keep vibration down. Them just trim a hole in the wood in the right spot. I have kappa perfect 3-way 6X9's in the door with their componints in the rear with a alpine head unit. It sounds great youll love it.
It is a TIGHT fit, but it fits. I used MDF and coated it with outdoor SPAR polyurethane, so it will repell moisture. So far so good. I made my design 2 piece. The 1st piece is 1/2" MDF to bolt to the factory locations. The 2nd mounts the 8" woofer and 4" midrange. It took a considerable amount of test fitting. It also makes the door a little heavier.
Nice work Eric, Does that make the speaker panel buldge out any more than usual?
Shane
Driver side not at all. Passenger side maybe 1/16th where one screw is, but its only in the area that meets the dash when the door is closed. As for the metal frames not at all. I also added sound absorbing foam behind the door panels to absorb the sound as the 4" speakers are a tad bit covered up.
You might be able to see the bulge it in this pic:
