C5 TECH, Can we "Bypass" the recall?
My question is this. If I install the C5 Solutions bypass and ignore the recall what happens the next time I get service. I am sure it will show up on my computer records. Can I refuse the recall and still get other warranty work done?
The last paragraph of every recall states;Whenever a vehicle subject to this campain enters your vehicle inventory,or is in your dealership for service, you must take the steps necessary to be sure the campagn correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle :( BUT,recalls are listed in two different catagories,SAFETY or CUSTOMER SATISFACTION...The column lock recall is listed as a CUSTOMER SATISFACTION recall, not a SAFTEY recall (and we all know why that is ;) )
This is a weird circumstance in that I cant every recall (no pun intended) were a customer did not want a recall performend on their vehicle in the past
...I would simply state to the service advisor that your vehicle has the CLB and that it would not be compatable with their recall. They may ask you to sign the repair order releasing them from any liability due to a future fault related to the column lock.Declining the recall shouldnt have any effect on other warranty work performend.
Remember,we all know that every dealer has their own policies and there is always the possibility that you will come across one that wants to play hardball with you

Please clarify this issue for me and Black Rain. The CLB is not compatable with the recall "fix", is that correct?
We either have to trust Chevy's extra power to the lock motor fix or try and decline the recall and go with the
CLB.
Thanks again,
Rick

I have the CLB and think I will wait a year or so to see if the recall spans down to the 1997 models and that people here have not experienced issues with the new motor.
