I was going to change them myself but I just am so damn busy lately. I was gonna drop it by the local stealership but they wanted 350 in labor to change the shocks. How many labor hours is it on a 00 with base suspension?

I seriously doubt $350 worth! I normally pay my mechanic about $80 an hour, can't believe over 4 hours for shocks. Should be a 2 hour project at most???
Call Midas or someone like that and see what they say!
I just did mine last weekend and 4 hours might be a safer number. In any case I'm betting the labor rate in the Springfield (Va) area is close to $90 an hour or more, so it's probably pretty accurate for a dealer.
Having said all of that, there are plenty of write-up's on it and for $350, I'd sure try to make time to do it.

Remember.. The "Stealership" doesnt set the hours. GM does..
4 hours labor is about right. Considering you need to lift the car, remove the wheels, remove the shocks, install the new shocks, road test the car, etc etc..
You could probably do it in less time though if you do it yourself..
this WILL take 4 hours if you don't zip tie or wire the shocks compressed before installing, don't worry about using a small wrench to hold the front shaft through the wheel well, just move the w/washer and coolant tanks out of the way and hit them with air from the top, if you were closer i'd offer to help
who the **** has a lift laying around? Not a very common "appliance" found in the corvette owners garage.
Actually ALOT of corvette owners have lifts in their garage. If you go into the F/I, Tech, or Performance forums I bet 2-3 out of 5 owners have a lift.
4 hours is a lot of time to change the shocks with a lift. I don't remember the exact time it took us to change the shocks on my car last time, but I am sure it was under 2.0 hours.

I am fully aware of the fact that a few people have lifts in there garage. Some guy asking how long a shock job on his vette would take is probably not one of them. I think it's prolly safe to say less than 1 in 50 vette owners have lifts in their garage, especially not this guy. That's all I was trying to say.
2 hours for a pro mechanic if he takes his time...
If the mechanic tried to replace all 4 shocks in 2 hours, I wouldnt let him work on my car. Cause he's not paying attention, he's just slapping the parts on and tightning the bolts. I guarantee he's not taking the time to torque and check his work..

2 hours would be slow for me at work with a lift and all the tools to do the job and that includes checking everything with a torque wrench.. Just because your a fast mechanic doesn't mean your not doing it right.. Just means you know what your doing and have done it before. Saves alot of time not having to think about what your doing, just jump in and do it and do it right...
