Default So....I got this

floor jack from Sam's last year for my Harley.
I want to paint my rotors this winter, and I did jack up the side of the vette to see if it would work. It did and mostly lifted the rear, but kinda the front oo... It kinda has a flat part that touches the car near the jack point... The weight limit is 1,000.. Am I crazy to use this for a couple of hours while I paint away?? Would you..or should I get a board to put a hockey puck on or do it like this???

I think you should be ok....I mean the whole car only weighs like 3200 pounds.....never hurts to put some jack stands under there though just in case

Ya think I'm stressing the frame by not picking it up right on the puck spot?

Default Use Good Jack Stands

I had a 1967 GTO fall off cheap jackstands in 1974. The wheels were off because I was getting the drums cut.

The problem was that I was laying under the right side of the car trying to get the pass exh manifold off to replace the heat riser.

I was told that it looked like the scene from the Wizard of Oz (when the house landed on my ex-wife, I mean the wicked witch).

I was very lucky, the only injury was a (still) split fingernail (from the exhaust pipe/finger/oil pan sandwich).

Please practice car jacking (that doesn't sound right).

I now have a Mohawk lift, and good quaility jackstands.

I was very lucky, not everyone is.

This is what happens when things go wrong, bad jack, bad jacking position. I heard a creaking and rolled out of the way just in time. $700 and 2 weeks later, car was repaired. I can think of a couple of things:

Safety First
Anything worth doing is worth doing right
It costs less to do it right
Scared straight!
