I want to upgrade my brakes and am considering the following systems,
1. AP 6 pistons front, 4 piston rear
2. Baer 4 pistons front and rear
3. Alcon 6 pistons front, 4 piston rear
I listed the above in the order of my preference.
I would like to hear what your experiences are. If you have other systems that you like, feel free to share. :yesnod:
Although I am SlowC5, it doesn't hurt to be able to slow down my car stops after stops.
Dilusi, Brembo, and Movit all have nice systems as well, if you're looking for options. The Movit system is adapted Porsche brakes, distributed in the US through UltimateGarage. I don't have any experience with any of the options, just trying to give you more choices. They all have excellent reputations.
I can only speak to the Mov'it (Porsche/Brembo) system, which is what I have had since April.
I only have the front system which is a Porsche 12.7" cross-drilled rotor and the Brembo 'BIG RED' 993 twin-turbo 2-piece, 4-piston caliper. I'm using the stock Porsche 993 T pad (almost 12 sq in) and the supplied Fischer stainless steel lines. The rotors were crygenically treated at Performance Cryogenics in Cleveland, GA. The swept area is appox. 300 sq in, 290 if you subtract the area occupied by the 'holes'.
In a word, FABULOUS!
I've put in 12,000 miles, including a One Lap of America (16 time trials, 6,000 miles) plus an additional 7 open track days. Here are the results:
Minimal rotor wear and wear is even across width of rotor. No cracking of any kind, either around the edges, holes or any where else on the surface. Pads still have about 1/3 material left and there is no taper whatsoever. This is the only rotor/caliper combo that I've seen no taper on.
Have had no warping/vibration, no soft pedal, nothing but consistent, solid stops on either street or track. This includes repeated stops from 160 mph at MIS, 145 mph at Road Atlanta and 140 mph at Watkins Glen. Have minor squeal under 5 mph on street.
Mov'it system comes in 2 configurations for the C5. The one described above, or a 15" (380mm) rotor for 18" wheels using the GT3 monoblock caliper. The advantages of this system are a more rigid caliper (less prone to deformation under stress), a larger swept area, and a slightly bigger pad ( approx. 13 sq in vs 12). The disadvantages are cost ($4795 vs $2795), ease of changing pads (the GT2 uses a quick change spring, the GT3 uses bolts) and less pad options.
Rotor replacements are $195 each and the set of stock pads are $95.
Ive been using the Brembo F-50's With Baer alcan seem to be the best other then,I learned of F-50s throgh my dealings with LPE on my stage2 TT.Ive had the Alcons and up till now I thought they were unbeatable but IMHO nothing beats the F-50s.Good Luck David S.
Does anyone have details on this Brembo F-50 system?
I am thinking of just doing the front for now. Maybe the 380mmx32mm, with the Prosche GT3 caliper (if I can get the wheel of my choice to clear).
I need 425mm clearance of inside diameter, and 63mm from rotor surface to inner wheel spoke.
I really respect :o Porsche's brakes, so I feel comfortable going with that.
Otherwise, I will most likely go with the AP setup. DRM sells that one.
Alcon seems nice, but the AP is just as good (I believe).
Until I can do something about my suspension, I feel that the front is probably going to do most of the work.
:cry :cry Too many options... :cry :cry :cry Please help...
