Default Magnacharger

I'm considering all possibilities for an up grade for my 2002 LS1 6sp. Any one have a intercooled Magnacharger on an LS1? If so how do you like it and does it behave on the street? Also what heads and cam would be a good choice? I'm going to be doing some upgrades this winter and I don't want to do it twice. some specs would be helpful. Thanks in advance.... Also any good tuners in Upstate New York?

CG- HUGE amount of data on the site ragarding this, do a search here and Z06vette [I know, LS6 but not huge diff.].

In a nutshell, the Maggie works great for certain situations:[big torque down low, OE-tested reliabilty, etc. It also has some limitations: if you are going to want more than around 575rwhp, best to look elsewhere. As I stated above, you will have a lot of reading by doing a thread search....Good luck!

I keep saying to myself that if I bought a new vette and started to mod it. I would just spend the money up front with the supercharger, and be done with the car.

Every winter I and another mod to my car. Between the parts and labor heads, cam, bolt ons, clutches, the S/C may really be cost effective

Default Mods???

With the Magnacharger do I still have the need to install heads and larger cam? I'm installing it on an LS1 6sp with LG headers, Magnaflo cat backs.

yep.
but here in tx it gets hot and humid. FYI: even on the hottest days u can stick your finger in the intercooler res and its ALOT cooler than the outside air.
most if not all FI suffers from the heat and humidity.
example: dyno'd at 75* pulled 466h, dyno'd at 108* with 90% humidity it was 446h...not much diff considering the temp and humidity.
peace

Actually what I did was fab my own out with tin snips from my original rail covers. I had to order aftermarket plain white from a vendor, not sure who it was, but they were $325.00!! After looking at them a bit, it looked to me that I could just cut mine down to look like the aftermarket ones, so thats what I did and sent the aftermarket ones back!!

Friend of mine did exactly that. 2002 Z06. Sweet car. No fuss, no muss.

I have had an IC Maggie on my car. It was great fun. Never had a problem. I would not bother with heads. A small blower cam and upgraded valvesprings will add 30-40rwhp. A blower cam in the 220-224 range with .580 lift and a 115-116LSA seems to be the best choice. With a cam, a smaller 3.1 pulley, headers, and a good custom tune expect around 480-500rwhp/460-480rwtq depending on outside temps... See my sig for my mods and results.

No need to purchase and install heads and cam. However, such upgrades would definitely up the hp. Moreover, the Maggie-Eaton comes with software that is tuned precisely for a stock C5 vehicle. This is the key feature of this product. Therefore, if you add on other parts, you may find less smooth runability that will need to be specifically tuned by an experienced tuner (easily remedied with a custom tune) with a tune that takes into consideration the other extraneous upgrades.

Essentially, the Maggie is a modified air intake manifold based supercharger, and, is thereby, mostly dealer accepted, and, dealer friendly. Magnacharger also offers a powertrain warranty (costs $200 extra) that covers powertrain damage up to $5,000. However, the vehicle must be stock, in stock tune with no other upgrades, AND, the Maggie must be installed by an certified ASE mechanic. Also, the prerequisite paperwork, identification, and, requirements (i.e., determined that the powertrain damage incurred was precisely due to the defective Maggie, etc.) would need to be filled out and met. FYI, do refer to magnacharger.com for more information, and, the extensive PDF installation files on this exceptional product.

Heads and cam provide less additional benefit with a piositive displacement SC like the Magnusen (Eaton) or a Whipple than they will with a centrifugal SC like Procharger or a Vortech. There are technical reasons why but they take several paragraphs. Example though is the C5 power outputs for the LS1 and LS6 (which differ only in the heads and cam, really). Although N/A there is about a 50 RWHP difference between them, with a Magnusen there is only about a 25-30 RWHP difference. This is not because the Magnusen is near its limit with the better heads -- its the nature of how it interacts with resistance to air flow in the heads - opening them up helps it less than a cetrifugal.

I've owned one of each, by the way: had the Magnusen on my 02 LS6 and have Procharger D1Sc on the C5R I currently run. Both are good, but the Magnusen was the single best aftermarket kit I ever bought. And that HOWL - its turbine wail is the best there is - Wow.

Here's a pic I found:

I've driven it a number of times.

What I would do, nexxt time, before I got involved with all this silly "mod heaven." Live and learn.

He took the stock Z, added the supercharger, Donaldson, catback for sound. Done. Driveable. Bulletproof.
