CAGS brings out the check engine light
I purchesd a CAGS unit from Mid-America and installed it today. When I take off and the 1 to 4 shiftlight comes on the check engine light comes on. I can reset the DIC, however the light will come back on and stay on with the next shift light. My DIC error code is P0804 which is a the shift lamp control circuit. Do i need to return the CAGS? Help
You must disconnect your negative battery cable before installing the CAGS bypass. Not trying to insult you, but some people forget this part and it always causes a code.

When I installed my CAGS bypass, I didn't bother to disconnect the battery. I did read the instructions but chose to omit that step to see if it would work without having to reset everything in the car and make the PCM learn again.
It worked fine for me without disconnecting the battery. I got no codes or check engine light and the bypass worked fine. I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I certainly didn't have to disconnect the battery. I just figured it was a precaution.
The PCM can't constantly be checking sensors even when the key is off. Can it? That would seem like a horrible waste of power.

My understanding is that the "GAGs" bypass has a resistor in it to "fool" the computer into thinking it is still hooked up. If you have followed all instructions to-a-T it would seem that perhaps your unit has a faulty or incorrect ohm-rated resistor. Return it and try again.

It very well could be an "open" in the circuit due to broken wire in CAGS bypass or possibly a broken or bent connector pin. If there is an open circuit the computer thinks the connector to the CAGS solenoid is disconnected and generates a code. Easiest thing to do would be to replace CAGS bypass unit. I installed mine without disconnecting the battery (2 years ago) with no problems. :D
I must have missed the battery dis-connect step. But I haven't had any error codes pop up. Guess I got lucky.

Some of the CAGS Eliminators have a "WEB" inside of the conector of the CAGS Eliminator that you have to take out. This "WEB" inside the conector will not allow the other end to go in far enough.
Before we started making our own we would take a plyers and take this piece out. Now ours are machined out.

 idea. After all, a GAGS eliminator is only a resistor that provides just enough voltage drop to the actuating signal so that the computer thinks it really actuated the solenoid. I prefer to have have the GM Weather-Pak connectors and not have to worry about moisture/corrosion etc.

I used the 220k ohm resistor bypass myself with no problem. You can buy a
card with (5) of these resistors @ Radio Shack for .79 cents.Fix yours up & pass the others out to friends.Good luck!
