Default High power cars, inside, please!!

Looking for someone who has a legitimate high 10 second/low 11 second car, say around 450-500 RWHP. How are you hooking up? I currently have a 3.15 rear gear and am looking at going to a 3.42 or 3.73. Wondering if you would go with the 3.42. I have a 427 ci. in. motor with a 3200 Yank with a 2.4:1 stall ratio. I bought this converter when I had the stock motor in it. As pricey as these units are, I would like to retain it. I have 3.15/30/18 Michelin PS PS2's on the back and it will activate the traction control at 70mph !! This was in 40 degree weather, however, and they will probably hook better at the track when it's 70 degrees or so. Help please!

Not sure if you mean hooking at the track, or just everyday driving with a ton of rear wheel torque?

I am an M6 guy, so I can't offer you good help for the track other than to ask what kind of rubber are you running there?
With anything other than a great drag radial or ET Streets, you have very little chance at getting lower than 1.9 60' times.
I think the Drag Radials are a waste of time with your power as well.
I couldn't get better than 1.8 60's with Nitto DR's and I'm making less power than you I'm sure.
450 rwh/400 rwt and stock cubed as well.

I went with MT ET radials 275 35 17's and have started to get some 1.5 - 1.6 60's with them, and better drivers are getting 1.4's.
Check the Drag Racing section on the Forum for further advice in this arena.

I ran 1.6s with BFG DRs around the same RWHP as you, but with 4.10 gears (not sure what gears you have).

The DRs would be good for everyday use to get you traction. You can also look into some of the high performance tires that guys are using at road courses or auto-x events. This will help with your traction problem.

I Have around horsepower u do I had to go to drag radials to get any traction. I went with 3.42 gears and 2800 stall my 60 ft.times are 1.54 range and yes my car runs in the 10s.

Thank you for your response/s! My main concern, though, is NOT what tire to run, but rather what GEAR to try. I am somewhat concerned that going to the 3.73 rear would REALLY make hooking tough. BUT... it also would make the "loose" converter "tighter" around town. I am also concerned that the 3.42 ratio wouldn't be that much of a difference from the 3.15 I now am running. Any input from any of you would be greatly appreciated, as I am impressed with the cumulative knowledge you/we all posess. I realize that the new Z06 runs the 3.42 gear, and, shall I dare say, it isn't TOO BAD!! But it does NOT have the 3.06 first gear I must deal with, either. I am running a rather mild cam (for the displacement!), with about .600 lift and 230 degrees duration@.050 lift, making the low end torque stronger than a "peaky" cam (say, .630+ lift and 240+ degrees duration@ .050 lift). thereby making a bad situation worse. This is a daily driver (5,000 miles from 10/05 thru 11/05, Thanksgiving vacation included!). I believe that the 3.73 ratio would also reduce the load on the tranny, as it would make the tires that much easier to spin/turn. I also think the 3.73 increases the revs only about 200 R.P.M. or so at 70 M.P.H. (Love that O.D.!!) Thanks again!!

Of course going to 3.42's or 3.73's will make traction more difficult, but the difference between the two probably wouldn't be noticeable. Once you get to 3.90 and 4.10's in a A4, that's when traction gets near impossible. Since you only have a 3200 stall, a 3.42 rear may tighten things up enough for you. But 3.73's will really tighten things up, probably tighter than stock.
As far as tires go, Nittos are the best for the street. But when cold, they get hard and will spin as easily as a regular radial. When warm, they stick pretty well though. A few other downsides, you'll be lucky to get more than 15k out of them, and once they reach the wear indicators, avoid driving in the rain! Any other drag radial isn't streetable at all. Another option is to get mini tubs and fit some 325-345's in the rear. You'll still be able to break them loose, but not as easily.

I've been very happy with the 3:73 and Vigilante 3800 stall I run. I think that would be a better choice for you, though traction will always be a problem on the street with any tire with this much power. I run the MT drag radials, they hook better than the BFG's and will last longer.

The ps2's suck in the cold weather but at around 28 psi when its warm out they will hook. Not as well as a drag radial but the best street radial. Just wait until warmer weather. I have the exact same tires and with a asa cam, lg pros and a few other bolt ons and if I power shift 2'nd they bearly chirp. At the track I launch at 3500rpm with no issues.
