Default My Coolant Overflow Tube Is Being Cut By Plastic Shrowd!

Checked my coolant overflow tube only to find that the plastic above it is actually cutting into the rubber! any fix for this? or should i just wrap some tape around it?

Tape, heavy plastic, cut section of larger hose, etc. will work. I also cushened mine with some foam rubber.

I'd replace it if it's actually cut. The tape would certainly work but some how taping a $3 piece of tubing on a $50K car just doesn't seem right.

I cit a section of larger hose and placed it over the piece of tube that goes under the shroud. You can't tell its there but it does the job. I caught mine early on.

I used black plastic wire guide. The kind with ridges on it. It matches the factory wire and hose protection.
Looks good and works well...

This is a common problem with all C5's. My solution was to snake some high temp. braid over the hose. Protects and looks good.

take a piece of 3/4 ID heater hose and split one side and slip it over the hose at the rad shroud. i have seen some cars from the factory with a plastic sleeve over the hose but even 01s do not have it.

Here is the absolute guaranteed best solution. Take some black door edge trim (you know the kind you can get at most any auto parts store that wraps around the edge of the car door to protect it against dings?). Cut a piece long enough to fit on the fan shroud between the tie downs for the overflow tube hose. Problems solved.

Also, you can get plastic braided plastic covers for hoses (it comes in various colors and sizes to fit over hose) and put this around your hoses at locations where danger of abbrasion exists. I'll post some pix after I get home tonight if I remember.

I did both to my overflow tube hose.

;)

Or, if you want a cheap yet effective solution, get a small metal hose clamp and clamp it over the hose where it contacts the shroud. The only "trick" is getting the clamp tight enough to stay put but not cutting off the coolant flow.

My 01' came with a rubber bumper attached to
the radiator cover that protects the overflow hose.

I just added some tape, but I think I will use a dremel and file the plastic a little so it doesn't cut through. Just a thought....
