Can anyone provide me with instructions of how to remove the half shafts? I'm trying to get the control arms out, but I'm not sure what I need to do to disconnect the half shafts.
Take off the large spindle nut (can't remember what size it is), remove the upper a arm from the frame, remove the shock from the frame. Use a large screwdriver or the like to pop the half shafts out of the differential.
Yes, if you want to take the half shaft entirely out. If you're just removing them to replace the seals in the diff then you may be able to get away with leaving them in. Alternatively you could separate the ball joint and take the shaft and spindle out together.
So that giant 30+mm nut has to come off? I guess I will be taking a trip to Sears.
Thanks,
Chris
YES, and I rented the socket from NAPA. Not a problem to remove really. Had to remove the pass side 1/2 shaft to fix a torn CV boot.
- remove two bolts hold upper control arm from car
- remove brake caliper and e-brake line
- shaft comes out of differential with a little "pull/hammer/yanking" of the half shaft
- finally remove the nut to get the spindle off
