Default service tire mon system?

Hi I asked this question last week and got a few different responses but now I have the exact code flashing on the dash at start up

I just bought a 2000 vette with 26,000 miles on it. Got rid of my 97. The guy I bought it from put 2005 vette rims on the 2000 I have. When you start the car, the instrument computer flashes "service tire mon system" which I think I know what this means. When I check the tire pressure on the dash board in all tires it reads blank on all no pressure. Is this because it has 2005 rims and tires on it? Can this be fixed or repaired? Or do I have to put 2000 tires and rims back on it? Otherwise Ill keep what I have and hit the reset button each morning..ANy suggestions?

Thanks!

I'm not all that knowledgable but, did he transfer the pressure sensors from the original rims to the new ones? (If that is even possible, i don't know)

Maybe the pressure sensors on the new rims (original to the rims or new ones) need to be "programmed" to your car?)

Just a couple of thoughts that first go through my mind when I hear your problem.

Are there tire pressure sensors in the new tires and wheels?

I also have a 2000 that the previous owner put later model rims on. Had the same error code everytime I started the car.

All you have to do is replace the Tire Pressure sensors on each wheel. They mount from the backside, so the tires have to be unmounted to put them on. Fred Beans Chevy will probably get you the best price. I got them there for $72 each (local dealer wanted $138 each). Once you get them mounted you just have to do the training procedure. For that you just need a magnet to set on the inside of the wheel next to the air valve.

Good Luck with your fix. I know it bugged me till I got mine right.

Forgot to mention, Problem is that 01-04 TPS have a different transmitter than 97-00. Thus, even if the sensors are in the wheels, they won't work with your car. Make sure you get the right ones for your 00. Unfortunately they cost double what the 01-04 sensors cost.

I know the feeling. ANY code which flashes KILLS me. (I HAD to stop at a gas station and get Windshield Washer fluid as soon as it started giving me the message even though I was late for the engagement)

I guess I'm ****.

If your wheels have 2005 sensors in them, you can probably sell them here on the Forum. The C6 without the sensors will not allow full use of the cars power so the racers are having to put sensors in their track tires until someone comes up with a way to bypass this feature.

I had this happen on my 2K once as well but it was when the weather first dropped below 30. The drop in temperature dropped my tire pressure below what the sensor would pick up so I got the TPS error message.

Have you received the error ever since you got the car or did it just start? Have you checked the tire pressure manually? Also, the tire pressure readings on the DIC only register when the car is moving. It will not show the tire pressure with the car parked.

This may not be the case with your's since you have upgraded wheels but never hurts to check. I learn something new on here everyday.

Either the sensors are not there or are the wrong ones. The computer is not seeing any sensors.

If the stems are rubber, there not there. If the valve stems are metal and have six-sides (so they can be removed with a deep socket) at the bottom, then they are dead, or most probable, the later version. Which is not compatible with your system.
Take it easy.

Thanks all. I guess I will check to see if they are there after I replace the rear tires in about a month. If they are I will sell them. They are no good to me. If they are not there I have seen them on ebay but $$. My rims do have the metal valve stem.I guess they just dont work on my 2000. The dummy that put 2005 rims on my car didnt check thos out first. Now I have to hit reset every time I start my car and have to do the old way of manually checking the tire pressure. Can my computer be reset so it acknowledges the 2005 sensors?

the 2005 rims will accept the 2000 tire press. sensors...install the correct sensor in the wheel and learn it to the car...problem will be solved.

I have the sensors on my waggon wheels and didn't put them on when I switched wheels. The message would always come up and annoy me. When I had a cam installed the tuner got rid of it for me.
