As we say in the F-Body world, go big or go home! Honestly though, its all in personal opinion....

what do you want your car to idle like? stock-like or like a beast (real choppy)?

what are your goals for the car (fun to drive daily driver with good power, or are you going for the 10 second club?)

Im not sure around here where they are as this is my first day, but on ls1tech.com there is a GREAT writeup on cam's in one of the tech forums, you should check it out!

I don’t know much about cams so take it for what it’s worth. Over the years I have had 4 different cams in my F-body with all the bells and whistles and I found that when I got over the 230 duration and .600 lift range the car pulled like hell up top but the lower end sucked. I had my best results with cams in the 226-230 .570-.590 range. I don’t drive the car every day but when I do I want it to be enjoyable and with a huge cam that was not possible. I guess look at what kind of driving you are going to do. Will the car live in the top end or is it more of toy to go out on the street with.
