Default tire sizes

i have ccw 505a's, 19x10 in front and 19x11 in back. Are 315's the widest you can fit in back without tubbing.

Just a little insight: A 19X11 wheel with an 315mm tire is a perfect tire width, to wheel width, rear wheel fitment. Hence, this combo will fit on a C5 rear axle (with an o.e. C5 rear wheel offset) with no problem. However, in general, you do need to tub (or, modify the fenders/wells) the C5 to accomodate wider tire width sizes such as tires that are sized at 325mm, 335mm, 345mm, and, 355mm, AND, do so by utilizing a custom rear wheel offset in the rear wheels.

Now, there are enthusiasts who have installed 325mm and 335mm on the rear axle without bothering to tub their vehicles. Case in point is JDMVette's C5. In fact, take a moment to look at the beautifully photographed pics (great angled purview) of his gorgeous red C5. And, look closely at the stance and position of the rear tire in relation to the fenderwell edge. The rear tire does protrude past the fenderwell just a bit. But, obviously suits JD's particular taste for fitment, appearance, cost, and, level of modification to the C5 body.

In general, it is always best to install a wider wheel and tire combo (any common passenger wheel and tire combo for that matter) within the edge of the fenderwell. Otherwise you may risk scraping the shoulders of the tires while negotiating speed bumps, potholes, and, steep roads. A colleague of mine has the same set up and the obvious cuts and abrasions of demarcation on the shoulder edges of the rear tires are quite evident.

Moreover, if you so choose to install 325mm, or, 335mm (again, remember that rear wheel measurent and offset is critical and makes the difference), you are also limited to how far you may lower the vehicle. Stiffer (higher rated coil overs) coil over coil springs with heavy duty shocks, or, heavy duty rear leaf springs help to reduce "bottoming out" and scraping the tires. Last, but, not least, I would like to add that the pic of JDMVette's C5 is stunning. And, is one of the sharpest Corvette C5 examples of the CF member automobile stable, to date. JD's input has always been helpful, and, his C5 is well done. Good luck to you on your project.

What tires are available between 305 and 345, other than the GY 325, which is much taller than the stock size?

Greetings to you, John. Now, as mentioned above, the 315mm tire size is the best in "between" tire width size that would present no fitment issues. And, depending upon the wheel diameter, you basically have a nice wide variety of tires to choose from: In 315/30-18, you have the Michelin PS2's, the Pirelli PZero Rosso Assimetrico's, the Pirelli PZero Corsa's, the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A Drag Radials, the Yokohama Advan's, and, the Continental ContiSport Contact II's. And, in size 315/25-19, you have the Continental ContiSport II's, the Continental ContiSport VMax, the Michelin Sport PS2's, and, soon, the Pirelli PZero Rosso Assimetrico's. Do feel free to ask any further questions, and, I would be happy to offer additional and helpful feedback. Good luck to all who are considering a tire and wheel upgrade project for their C5. By far, this particular mod is one of the most visually gratifying, and, is an upgrade from stock o.e. tire and wheel sizing.

Wow thanks for all the compliments, edensknight.

My car's tires do stick out a bit now, and if it was something i could do, i would tub it. for now i will stick with the 335s and these wheels but the next tires i buy will be 315s.

Tigershark, do not be dismayed. It is possible that you may have been mis-informed regarding tire sizing availability for your particular wheel application (19X11). Moreover, perhaps you did not notice one of my solutionary responses posted above: For your convenience, and, in an effort to assist you, I specifically list three tire brands and models that are available in 315/25-19 for an 19X11 inch rear wheel. And, these tires are simply a phone call away, and, are available at The Tire Rack, and/or, Discount Tire.

JDMVette: As I mentioned before, the pics of your C5 are stunning. And, also quite exposive to the fact that the 335mm tires that you currently have mounted on the rear wheels are too wide, not only for fitment within the fenderwell (as they obviously protrude past the fender's edge), but, also for the rear wheel width you currently have mounted to the rear axle. And, as you so commented above, eventually moving to an 315mm tire application would be the ticket. Frankly, your gorgeous Torch Red C5 is sure striking with those well chosen wheels of yours. Good luck everyone.
