Nice shifter but holy crap, it's tough shifting even with the two lightest springs in each side. My tricep is a bit sore this morning from the road test!
If I get some time today I'm going to single springs on both sides, and I'll go to smallest and lightest if I have to.
That thing shifts slick though and no more tough reverse shifts on start up, it goes right in every time now. Took a bit of getting used to, the shifts are so short it felt like it wasnt going into gear.
I took the time to add a little foil backed foam insulation and I used the PVC cap trick on the install and it's as quiet as stock. I reused the stock boot and the only problem there is now I have no place to put my bic lighter that sat there.
If I can get the shift force down to a reasonable level I'll be one happy camper! I have no idea how anyone could use that with the two stiffest springs installed!

Nice mod, congrats. I have the same shifter and I thought the same thing during my first test drive, very positive shifts but so tight. I decided drive it for a while to see if it loosened up any after some miles and I either got use to it or it did loosen up a bit. I am very happy with the shifter and I have the springs in it that came from the factory.

Mine was stiff at first but after 2 weeks of consistant driving it loosened up and now it feels like stock. Its been 9 months so far. If you switch to lighter springs, i think you lose the easy effort of powershifting 2nd to 3rd. Thats why the spring is stiff so you'll never miss 3rd.
Swap the stock springs back in and give it some time.
I may do as you suggest but I may go the other way and if it get's too light I can always go back to the stiffer springs.
Seriously, this is really stiff and there is no way I could miss 2nd to 3rd as it is now.
I too found it a bit stiff at first and it sofented up in a few weeks and enjoy it now. I have driven many C5s with various aftermarket shifters and hound the Hurst to be amung the easiest to shift of the bunch . Some of the real short ones are a real chore to fight with, but provide even quicker shifts in trade.
Ike told me that mine would get easier after a few weeks and I have to agree with him it did.
Now my only problem is a fast shift from 4th to 5th. I actually have to push it towards 5th otherwise I go straight up to 3rd. It happen 2 times and you get real nervous when you see the rpms climb to the moon as you are praying that you got the clutch pushed before she explodes....
Any of you Hurst shifter owners ever had a B&M ripper before? The B&M seems notchy and I am considering the purchase of a hurst to address the notchiness...
I had the same thoughts as you did about the shifter being to stiff with the softest springs in place. The next thing I did, was put the Hurst shift ball on http://www.madvet.com/shop?frame=1.3778 and it made shifting more comfortable feeling because the round design fit my hand better.

I'm working on fabricating an AR15/M16 pistol grip shifter as I type. It will take a little work and trial and error but I have few pistol grips lying around to work with, and I love the feel in my initial tests. I have a few things to work out though and it may only be usable with a shorty/custom boot.
I replaced the stiff springs with stiffer springs from my hardware store. After you drive a dog ringed TKO transmission in a mustang for a few years, anything else is your wifes shifter.
I took a piece of one inch foam and used the shift boot as a template and cut a piece to fit inside the bottom of the boot. Then I cut a 1 1/2" hole in the center for the PVC end cap and installed the foam in the boot and the boot in the console.
explain the pvc cap stuff... I'd like to know that.
There's thread here somewhere with pics.
Get one at Lowes, it's a rubber end cap for PVC pipe, 1 1/2" size. Cut a hole for the shifter shaft and slip it over and stuff it in the isolator. It works.
