how decent is the stock z06 valvetrain? I'm about to pickup a set of z06 heads complete w/ lifters/cam (heads are assembled w/ stock springs/retainers) How much better is the z06 valvetrain? What kind of lift/revs can they reliably handle?
lighter valves, stronger springs allow 6500 redline with zo6 cam, different cam may require stronger springs, Zo6 cam has smaller base circle, but uses same length push rods, variation in valve train geometry is kept by using longer stemmed valves.
thats interesting, I didn't know that about the base circle... because of the architecture of the valvetrain, do you need special cams for that, or do all aftermarket LS1 springs/valves adjust their valvetrain to z06 dimensions?
So, it appears if I want to run a decently aggressive cam, I'll probably want to pick up a set of beehive springs.
Beehive springs are what come from the factory. I say the stock springs are good for cams up to .550 lift. Any more than that and a spring upgrade is good, cheap insurance against valve float.
That is the beehive comp 918 spring, probably the best springs you can get right now. This is what all the guys are recommending for a reliable 7200rpm motor.

I was told to get the Comp 921's. are the 918's better?
