Default 2004 z06 6speed

I have a 2004 z06 with about 6500 miles on it. I really enjoy driving the car except sometimes the gear has popped out either out of first or 2nd.

Also, it's becoming increasingly difficult to put it into first gear....a LOT of resistance, and sometimes the reverse gear is hard to enter as well.

In addition, when shifting from first to second, i can feel a "grating"...not smooth at all (happens about 80% of the time). Same with some 2nd to 3rd gear shifts (about 50% smooth).

Is this normal? i could not find any other posts regarding this.

I am going to take it into the dealership but wanted some outside opinions before doing so. Could i have a bum transmission? I had to really push hard the other day to get it into first gear doeesn't seem normal.

thanks in advance

I bought my 99 used with 82k miles on it. It did the same as you described...

- hard to put into first
- reverse difficult and popped out of gear

This is what I did:

- replaced fluid in the clutch master cyl (it was black and nasty). Easiest thing to do, and cheapest. Didnt change anything though

- replaced clutch, flywheel, pressure plate. Clutch was slipping badly so I replaced it. Fixed the problem with 1st gear but reverse kept popping out.

- replaced the transmission with a rebuilt unit from RPM transmisssions. This fixed it.

fixed...

Default transmission problesm

thanks for your response.

my vehicle is still under warranty so i don't know if they will replace it but it's definitely getting more annoying. i don't mind paying 50K for a car but I want it to work properly.

I will take it to the dealer tomorrow :>)

i agree go to your dealer. Its probably your syncros. I have hear dof syncros going early here and when i had my g35 i had the trans replaced due to bad syncros whenit only had 12,000 miles on it. Good luck

I'd take it to the dealer if its still under warranty and make them fix it. They would try to bleed the clutch (easy way out) and that might fix it for a little while but you need to pin point the exact problem 'cos if its the syncro in tranny etc, its really expensive and pain to fix/replace

i def think it's getting worse so i'm taking it in tomorrow morning. two of the past 2 american cars i've owned have had transmission problems.

hmmmmmmmmm. i LOVE my vette but this was unexpected
