I had a couple of codes get thrown maybe a week or so ago:
P0410: Secondary AIR Injection System Malfunction
P1416: AIR System Bank 2
I took the car into the shop last week. AIR pump & valve supposedly checked out fine & codes were cleared.
However, the wife & I went out for a drive yesterday and the #$%^ codes are back. :mad
I'm not taking it back to the shop & would like to try and get this reslved myself...Can anyone point me in the right direction on this???
Hi! I'm not home now, so I can't tell you what the exact problem is. It seems to be quite common so I would clear it and drive it! There is a site where you can check codes; If I can find it I'll post again. Good luck.
I had the same codes and changed the AIR pump and the passenger side check valve. You have to remove the intake manifold to change the check valve which is a 1/2 day job....I put the new parts on and it threw a new code for the drivers side check valve (a 10 min. install). After doing all of those things, I still get the P1415 and P1416 codes but not very often. I read a post awhile back that it could be a burr in AIR tubes in the B&B headers. I realize that you have a different brand so that may not apply. It also makes me wonder if it could be from an additive in the fuel that makes it set these codes.
B. Stewart, Thanks for the info. I gues I'll just replace these items myself.
Your ques. regarding the additives is an interesting thought...
As a note, I did not have these codes until after a good track event and my thought was that the added heat may have fried the check valves.
I've seen posts over on the other board of how the aftermarket headers cause these problems.
Maybe someone can clarify something just to help my understanding of the AIR system. Its my understanding that the AIR pump injects fresh air into the system at startup for 120 seconds for emissions purposes. Is this not the case? Why would the system throw a code while at cruising speeds for several miles? Also, lets just hypothetically say I wanted to just remove the check valves and code out the errors - Is this a non issue?
C4C5specialist was the one who advised me on what should be done. Apparently the check valves rust shut. The only time it happens to me is after WOT runs. I really don't think that it is much to worry about. You have raised some good points, hopefully someone will have some answers.
