I was told that the C6 and later model C5's have a declutching alternator pulley that allows the alternator to freewheel on deacceleration, thereby lowering the stress and whip of the belt.
My 01 does not have such a pulley, and since I am about to mount a Magnuson, I would like to add one. Fred Beans does not list the pulley seperate from the alternator, so I am having a little trouble coming up with the part number.
Anybody out there have any info? Or am I just chasing shadows...

You were told wrong. The clutch was added in early 2000 . IT was added for one reason. There were many complaints about belt squeal on A4 C5's, when you put the car in drive, the excessive decline in rpm would cause the belt to squeal, thus the redesigned clutch. GM went to a new design but only for A4's. NO clutch on C6 MN6/MN12
cars. Here is a 2005 C6 Zo6... No Clutch...
I hope this helps, and saves you some grief. BTW only 97,98,and 99, a few 2000's A4's were clutch less. These alternators are very year specific internally. The communicate uniquely with the PCM. Swapping out a pre 2000 with a later model can and does cause DIC problems. Charging systems faults etc. An early PCM thinks the alternator is a 110 amp, the later models are 140 amp.
