Please help with chripping noise
I'm tired of hearing a chripping noise coming from under my hood. Sometime ago there was a post about this problem and I can't seem to locate it on the forum. It stated this problem being caused by belts, pulleys and tensionoir (excuse the spelling) I think and generally was referring to 99 and older C5s. Does anyone have a fix for this problem or can direct me to the post about it. This is driving me up the wall....

I had posted about my chirping noise and it did get quieter after it warmed up, it was a little noiser with the A/C on, after awhile it was constant. The fix was a new A/C belt and I replaced the Idler and Tensioner pulleys while I had it apart (62K mi.). The Idler pulley is purchased seperately but the tensioner pulley is only sold by GM as an assembly. I purchased two Idler pulleys (Fred Bears $22 each) and just put one of them on the tensioner assembly, very easy, same pulley exactely (#'s same too). Took me 2 hours, I'm slow. PS-NAPA and everybody else didn't have the pulleys, I tried.

Chirping is generally always a bearing of some sort. The idlers and the alternator are the biggest culprits.
The odd thing is that even though the "sing" they still seem to work for many miles.............they just annoy the @%#% out of us !
