Default no H-pipe or X-pipe.....what would happen?

I think this has been asked before, but this seems confusing to me. Why do the left and right exhausts need to be connected at all? Older Vettes had sidepipes...they were fine. Most older cars with dual exhausts are "dual" - not connected. Why is ours connected?

The idle is better and exhaust pulses are balanced because of equalized scavenging which also increasing hp. Why do so many people want to live in the past??? 70's 454's use to turn in the high 13's. These new cars are so much better than your grandfathers car. Carburetors, and points, and distributors, accelerator pumps and true duels are a thing of the past.

If you remove the cover from your windshield wiper motor, you will find those points that you quest!
