Did a search, I didn't find anything to specific, though I'm sure this has been beaten into the ground....

I want to change my trans fluid in my '99 MN6.
1. I would love to know how to? Need a fluid pump? Pump till it starts coming out?
2. What type of fluid? Syncromesch?

Thanks so much everyone!

yeah you need a pump...couple bucks at auto parts store...

check manual for capacities as I don't recall..I used Amsoil fluid which doesn't require the additive for the rear end

For a few extra bucks spring for the 4Oz of posi fluid either GM or aftermarket.

The diff needs 75W90 gear oil. It is only available as a synthetic.
you will need to buy 2 qts.... but only need about 1.5 qts,
Pick your preferred Brand. I prefer Shell but used Mobil 1
Others prefer Amsoil, Royal Purple, or Red Line,
Any major Brand 75W90 will be fine,
Quaker, Pennzoil, Valvoline, Kendall, etc
Put the additive in first then fill with the gear oil until it begins to overflow.

The transmission requires Dexron III ATF.
No additives required! If I remember correctly it needs abour 3.75 qts.
Again any major brand is fine. Each has their own preference

Redline synthetic ATF in my M6 If you have a Harbor Freight around go there and get a suction gun. About $5.00.

I use Mobil1 synthetic ATF in the transmission of my 04Z and used it in my 99 vert, no issues. Lots of folks like Redline or Amsoil. Dexron III ATF is what the manual calls for. It will probably take about 3-4 quarts to fill it. Yes, you'll need a small pump. Fill the transmission till it starts to run out the fill hole.

Looks like you got most of the answers already, but I just posted this on other thread, so easy to cut and paste here to help:

In answer to a few of your questions,
The fluid is added via a fill plug which is on the driver's side of the diff, about half way forward and halfway up. The temp sensor plugs into the fill plug. Fill until fluid comes out the hole. The drain plug is on the lower rear corner of the passenger side. I suggest you open the fill plug first, because if you open the drain plug first and then have trouble getting the fill plug open, you will be sad...

FYI, AMSOIL Dexron III fluid for the C5/Z06 is product code ATF: AMSOIL ATF. Tranny will take just under 4 quarts. You will need a pump, like the AMSOIL Hand Pump, product code G2039, to pump the fluid up into the fill hole. This pump screws right onto AMSOIL quart bottles. Ordering info in my sig.
