Just installed my E.E. tunnel plate. I was just wondering if it was possible someone could use my stock tunnel plate to double up there plate. I would imagine this would offer more ridgidity for cheap.
You know that's a good question. do you have a mic to measure the thickness and see if you added a second plate would it be ridgid enough or would it create a problem.. which one did you add to your car?
I installed the 3/8 ceramic coated plate and the stock bolts were plenty long enough! The stock plate has the edge rolled over so they should stack and if you use a washer for a spacer i would think it would work well. Either that or trim the rolled edge off the bottom plate so the stack tightly.

I was thinking you could use the 1/4 plate and sandwich some insulation between them for max thermal protection and good rigidity and save some money.
It really would be pointless to put the OEM plate back in after installing the upgraded plate. If you wanted that much more of a thickness then just install an upgraded plate at the max thickness.

If you've already bought bought the plate, go ahead and re-install the factory plate too if you want. Can't hurt. There have been several posts from guys doing this over the last couple years.
hmmm....that's what I plan to do the next time I get under there; get longer bolts and mount my stock plate on top of my aluminum plate. Can't hurt.

You may not need longer bolts. It mainly depends on the thickness of the plate you installed.
I was'nt considering this mod for myself. I think 3/8 coated aluminum plate is plenty for me. I just thought someone might benifit from combining my stock plate with thiers . As far as a vibration resulting from this, where would this originate from?

I don't think there would be. The factory plate, although relatively thin, has strenghtening ribs. Maybe if the mounting bolts were left too loose.
If you don't want to take any chances at all, I guess you could always spread a sheet of gasket material out between them. It gets pretty hot there so anything you use must be pretty temp resistant. HTH
I have been asked already by C4tomcat for it. Considering the success of the E.E. tunel plate G.P. I would imagine there is a surplus available and they really dont make attractive wall art. Good Luck and if he changes his mind your #2
I actually did this (put two stockers togethor...) Kinda a PITA, you have to pretty much flatten out the edges on one of them, and then roll it back up onto the second one (basically making them one) as it will not fit with the first one flattened out - Hell, it barely fit rolled over the second one - had to use some force to get it up there.
I have a FRC to begin with, so i am not sure if i would see the benefits like a coupe or vert, and i cannot say i noticed any difference in stiffness...
I guess the point is whether you really need that much extra strength by adding the OEM plate on top of an already upgraded tunnel plate. I really doubt it's worth the trouble, unless you do very aggressive racing.
