Re: How often does the fuel filter need to be changed? (rocketrider2)
I've got 50K miles and no problems, but a C5 tech here in Houston said those of us in large cities or areas with oxygenated gas need to change it much more often, due the nature of the additives to damage the filtering element.
Anybody heard this before?

Its easy. You will need a fuel line tool for one side of the filter to seperate the line. Wear protective glasses so you wont get fuel in your eye by mistake.
How often you change it depends on gas quality. Change it now, cut it apart and see how dirty it is then you be the judge. Brown color paper is OK but look for crud cought in the paper. GM thinks it can go 100k without being changed. I will change mine at 30k.

Considering how easy it is to change, and the fact that it really does not cost much, I would say change it at least 50K miles. I typically change mine every other year, but that may be overkill.
Good Luck,
