Default HIGH FLOW CATS..what's the payoff?

stock motor, vortex ram air, b&b shorties (yea, I know) , corsa x pipe, corsa indy system. Adding high flow cats gets me what?

RT is telling me I'll get 10-20 rwhp ? Sounds like quite a stretch to me....

other than maybe $500.00 shorter probably nothing considering your setup.if you went to long tubes they would help,no disrespect intended.

Hi-flow cats are not as restrictive as stock cats, helps get the bad stuff outa the motor faster! They are a good compliment to L/T headers.

In short(not a pun), with my current setup all I'd really get out of the high flows is a different sound? No seat of the pants benefit?

Very little benefit with a stock setup.

According to ferderal regulations, it is not legal to replace a catalytic converter unless it has been proven by technician to have failed, and then it can only be replaced with an exempt OEM equivalent unit.

Difficult to enforce but the law states that; unless you have documented proof from a licensed technician stating that your cat "failed", a cat replacement is just as illegal as cat elimination.

Furthermore, even if your cat(s) "fails" the law states that you must replace it/them with an "OE equivalent" not a "high flow". So, a "high flow" will get you in as much trouble as just getting rid of the cats entirely.

The EPA will not only fine the enthusiast for this, they will also fine the installer.

Please be careful........

The federal regulations are toothless. The State gov't (part of their revenue stream) is responsible for enforcement. LS1 Edit, cam swaps, head swaps (even installing GM LS6 heads/cam on a LS1 car) are illegal as well, so is installing an exhaust that would cause the car to fail the Federal noise tests BTW.

I know for a fact that in most states if they see a bulge in the pipe, no SES light, and IM 240 or sniffer pass, that you've passed emissions. Colorado does not even inspect for EGR and AIR pumps anymore, they would have to train the monkeys so they could properly distingish a lug nut from an AIR pump.

This law exists to keep manufacturers in check. Do you really think they would fine someone for replacing a cat? Factory cats have a long history of "falling off" and being replaced with aftermarket high flows.

I agree. As I mentioned this law is difficult to enforce.
