Default What to do? Replace or rebuild a MN6?

I am afraid this time is coming... synchros are getting warn and the trany doesnt want to cooperate much anymore. I dont know the first thing about transmissions. I live in a rural part of Oklahoma and the car shops here would either do it incorrectly or rip my wallet apart.

What should I do?

Find a rebuilt MN6 from someone reputable and install it myself or have it done by someone professional? Order a rebuild kit and pay to have it rebuilt by a professional or learn how to do it myself? I am just trying to see what I am looking at here. I could probably get by with just putting in new synchros but that is just as costly. Might as well rebuild it while its apart right?

If I am going to be spending this kind of cash I want to do it right so when mod season comes around I wont have to tear it apart again. Is there a rebuild kit that can give the tranny a little more muscle?

What do you guys recommend?

I would get your M6 rebuilt by Rodney at RPM.

He can rebuild your M6 with hardened syncros, shift forks, etc.

He'll send you a built M6 and when you're done with the swap you ship your current broken M6 back in the same pallet (core).

That'll be your most cost effective solution.

Good luck,

Mark

That sounds good but my next step would be installing it. That I'm clueless about...

Default Is your car still driveable?

If so, you aren't too far from a lot of shops in Texas who could do the install for you.

Yeah, there are places within a reasonable distance but this car is my daily driver. It would be difficult to drop it off out of state for a few days....

It is not a two day job so ship it to an installer and go there for the day. Make appointment ahead of time. Not easy to do yourself if you don't have lift and jack,

Why not make a post in your regional section? Alot of forum guys are willing to make a drive to help a fellow enthusiast out. I can't tell you how many times I've gone over to a CamaroZ28.com member's house to help them with their car for a nominal fee of pizza and beer, pizza sometimes being substituted for Jimmy Johns.
