Yesterday the roads here in the mid-michigan area were clear and dry so I decided to start the vette up and take a drive for the first time since it was put away in early november.
Once I started it up, I heard a squeaking noise coming from the engine compartment. It sounded like the belts. The noise seem to had gone away after a few minutes, however once I pulled out of the driveway and began to accelerate, it started again.
I remember reading a post on squeaking belts here on the forum.
The squeak could be caused by worn belts or bad pulley's/tensioners. Inspect each belt, if edges are frayed and/or there is more than a few cracks per inch, its time to replace the belts. Spray a little belt dressing, or just plain water on the belt with the motor running, if the squeak quiets down, then it is probably a bad belt. Goodyear Gatorbelts are one of the favorites here on CF. The source of the squeak could also come from either of the belt tensioners or the idler pulley. It is difficult to tell. Spray a little WD-40 on the pulley/tensioners, if the squeak quiets down, it is probably that pulley/tensioner. If the squeak seems to come from the driver's side, that is where the idler pulley is, if the squeak is from the passenger side, both belt tensioners are on that side. Replacing belts/pulleys are quite simple, parts are also relatively inexpensive.
Had a chirping sound coming from the engine.
When I look while the engine was running the belt tensioner pulley
was moving up and down. Just change it out and chirping stop and the
tensioner pulley is solid as a rock with the engine running .
You could easily move the old one by hand
