I have a stock 2.73 gear, can I just buy the 3.42 ring and pinion? And will it fit in my stock differential?? Thanks!
you might want to compare the costs of ring & pinion replacement - to the price of a use low mileage 3.42 carrier from a manual tranny C5. I've see them for sale somewhat often.
DTE has a method of doing this that no one else has been able to duplicate. Motive Gear claims to be releasing gear sets later this year that will bolt directly into the 2.73 cases.
there's no problem with "fitment". The 2 series case will handle the Getrag made gears. But it needs properly spaced within the case - to get the VSS reluctor into proper position. All DTE does is mfgr a spacer.
I do believe that DTE is not the only ones doing this (though they pioneered it).
