I have a 2001 Convertible. The last couple of times gassing up after the tank gets below half it drops to empty. I have extended warranty. For those of you that took your car to the dealer to get fixed did they actually fix it? Or did the problem eventually reoccur? Thanks.

When I first bought my 99 2 yrs ago it happened once to me. I switched to BP gas, always keeping the tanks at least half full, Techron once a year and I put Stabil in for the storage months, gas guage has not had problem since.
Since it is under warranty take it in... Maybe they will change the fuel sending units for you, maybe they will clean the ground contact for the senders.
The cheapest fix as identified previuosly is to use some solvents ( aka fuel system cleaner) to dissolve the fouling on the sender.
Chevron Techron ~ 12 ( need two containers)
Berryman Chemtool B-12 $2.79 at Walmart
DryGas ( use a six pack) $ 2.49 at Walmart
All have been reported to do the trick
Remember the C5 has two gas tanks and two senders... so put one in, fill up 2/3rd and add the second ( or balance)
Thanks for the replies. Since I have extended warranty I will probably take it in. I took it in a couple of months ago to get the seat rock fixed. I was told they finally came up with a part last year for it to fix it permanantly. It only took GM six years.

What is this part? Available at dealer? Or is this about the seats?
Lots of info on this. During my reading, I ran across and article explaining how our fuel gauges work. I was suprised to find out that between full and empty (or there abouts) the fuel gauge display is only an estimate from the computer.

FYI...Chevron Techron now comes in a "20 gallon" size...so you can pour in one, at near empty...
