i have a 97 with a vararam, 160 stat, b&b exhaust and i am going to be replacing my auto transmission that went out on me and figured while i was there i was going to upgrade my rear from a 3.15 to a 3.73 but was offered a 3800 stall.so my question is will a 3800 stall on a basically stock vette be to much stall for the car? should i go with the gears instead of the stall? which is the better choice for a daily driver?
3800 stall 373 gears? wow but a bit wild for the street i fried my 01 a4 at 75000 mi. had it rebuilt much stronger [very harrsh shift] but will handle 600 hp.while i had it out i changed my 273 to 342 and 3200 stall it felt like 100 more horse power . bad side less mpg and shift harshness . i hope you are not running youre stock intake.a 01 and up is a must have or you will be putting lip stick on a pig .get rid of TQ management and put z06 size tires on it .you will need them
First question is who makes the converter. If it's a yank SS3800 you'll be fine. If it's a vigilante that 3800 is more like a 4400 which would be to big for a stock car. I ran for over a year with a 3.90 rear and my SS3800 stall on a stock motor.
That's borderline for a daily driver. But as long as you don't take the cats off you should be fine. I had a Yank SS4000 and 3.73's and it felt great. But I drove the car every few days.
I think a vigilante 2800 will be fine. I have a buddy running 3:73s and a 2800 Vigilante on a pretty stock 1999 Vert and he told me that it was a perfect combo.
the converter is a tci converter and i was wondering how it would do on a stock motor and trans with 3.15 gears.i was thinking of getting 3.73 gears or the stall not both.
i am running a tci ssf3500 and 342 gears....felt strange for the first few hours......now i dont even feel it .....for 3.15 gears i would say 3000 and less
