Over the last couple of weeks, my HID's(Philips w/T-84)have stopped working properly. When I got them, I had a problem with the pass side ballast getting water in it, which I performed a jury-rigged fix using silicone sealant. No problem.
Lately, however, I noticed that when I would go to first turn them on, at least one of them would hesitate to come on....as though there wasn't enough current to ignite the bulb.
This had deteriorated gradually to the point that I can't even drive at night anymore, because if I get the damn things to light in the first place, the lightest bump or bounce causes one or both of them to go out :mad
I feel this is somehow related to the power system, since the problem is somewhat worse with the a/c and/or stereo on.(If either of the above items are on when initially turning on the heads, they WILL NOT come on at all--I have to turn off both the ac & stereo to light them at all:rolleyes: )
My question is this... Why would I have had no problem whatsoever for half of a year, and the a complete failure of the system?
I haven't changed anything on the car in that time, other than adding the stereo four months ago-- back when I had and continued to have no problems  so I don't think that was what did it....
Any advise would be greatly appreciated....
I paid way too much for these things(which I absolutely LOVE when working properly:D ) to have them quit working.
I'm no expert either but be sure to check for a poor ground. When I did stereo installs that was a major factor in returns. I don't know how they wire up but might be something you want to check. It sounds like a short somewhere if it goes out when you hit a bump. These are a real PITA to sort out. Good luck.
BTW in order to check for a good ground find out where the headlights are grounded and take a meter and put it on Ohm reading. Touch one probe to the light ground and the other to the battery ground. You shouldn't see more than 1 ohm resistance. If you do you should look for another ground.
Sounds like a ballast problem. Once ballasts are fired up they draw very little current.
You may also have a connection problem somewhere, since bumps are giving you problems.
By the way my HID lights are still working great
Re: Problems with my HID's ... (Innocent Bystander)
MDL-01C5,
I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with them. So far, almost all HID kits out there on C5's are working fine. You have a 5 year warranty on the bulbs AND the ballasts.
If you want, we will replace both of them to you at no cost.
Just let us know and we will have them replaced immediately.
We want you to be able to see great at night with no problems.
Re: Problems with my HID's ... (L.A. Performance Division)
Notice to all forum members---- OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE IS ALIVE AND KICKING!!!:D
Thanks to LAPD for the proof!!
If I can't fix them myself, I'd be happy to take you up on your offer
The warranty on the H.I.D.'s cant be beat!!! I dont care if you like the system, hate the system, or think you know all about the system!! :troll
The main thing here is... We have a 5 year warranty and they stand behind the product!! Makes me feel good that I purchase quality parts!! Thanks Shawn!! :smash: :smash:
You are very welcome. We don't want to see any of you frustrated or hassling with something that can be easily replaced, especially when it comes with a warranty that surpasses the C5's GM factory warranty.
If you purchase a product from us that is not working properly or is defective, WE WILL REPLACE IT!!!
Our goal is to make you happy and nothing is more important than that!
So, any news? I know Shawn at LAPD is terrific and will definitely honor the warranty, but did you have to go through the PITA to return them or were you able to jury rig the system and get it to work for now?
If you did need to return them, did you try substituting an 80w/80w H4 bulb -- that's probably a lot easier than having to change out the entire assembly and going back to stock so that you have use of the car.
I feel your pain -- Hope you are able to resolve the problems and get back on the road. I can only imagine what it must be like not to be able to drive your car because of a simple electrical problem.
So, if you are running the T-84 housings that only have provisions for a single bulb (right) and HID has no high beam, then is it correct that you have no high-beam?
I know most of the HID cars I've driven, the light works so well you don't use your high beams anyways, but I was just curious...
