Default Is it me, or have U2?

Have this Thread in the Gen. section also..it may get better responce here:
I have a '97 A4 C5 with 58,000 miles. I changed over to using 10W30 Royal Purple about 2 weeks ago (300 miles) and no more piston slap on cold start up. Has anyone else that uses Royal Purple notice this? Yes I have used Mobil1 and Casrol GTX Syn 10W30 and still had the cold piston slap.I also know some of you will say this is not possible.

Interesting...are you using the same oil filter? I have heard that some oil filters also make this noise go away...maybe it was valvetrain noise I am thinking about...and the anti-drain back valve in the oil filter...I have a 97 as well...use Mobil 1 and K&N oil filter...I don't have any noise to speak of....

Now, I wish I can try this and let you know but my sewing machine with G5X2 drive train and almost traight out exhaust would not let me hear those slaps anymore

Yes I have been using the K&N HP 1007 oil filter. Like I mentioned I have started using RP about 500 miles ago and the other day I notice I didn't have the slapping noise on startup like before. The RP is a little more then the others..but like with the new Mobil 1 it can go to 12k miles before an oil change...but recomended you change the oil filter every 3to4K miles and top it off with the RP. I use 10W30.

Sausalito is a wonderful and beautiful place. I live in the Napa Valley not far from Sausalito. Wife is from FL and we love it too.

If the noise went away then it was not piston slap!
