Sounds a little too much tire for the wheel to me....
I've run 295/35 on a 10.5 wheel (recommended wheel width for that tire)

I have them on my car and they work fine. It was a little tricky and time consuming to have them installed due to the small rim and wider tire, but they are on the car.cheers

Not recommended by BF Goodrich the Manufacturer. 10.0 is the thinest wheel they recommend for the 295/35/18. I would be nervous that they would slip off or break the bead during some serious cornering or the centers would wear out prematurely. Your call though

Running 285/55/18's on 18x8 chrome American Racing Wheels on my TrailBlazer. This size was the decision of the tire shop, I left it to them. I've been running them for 4 years now, 40,000+ miles, with not even an air leak.
