Default $$$ for 4.10 rear gears?

Greets:

What can I expect to pay for a set of 4.10/4.11 rear gears for a 2000 C5?

Likewise, what can I expect to sell the stock 3.42 rear gears for?

How 'bout installation?

Thank you one and all.

[Yes, I did an archive search... ]

I got a quote of $1200 to install JUST GEARS and take care of everything, including parts.

Not sure if you are talking about a full rear swap or just the gears.

Full swap will cost about $1200 just for the parts. Prolly another $500 to install.

Someone with more experience should be able to help.

fyi 3.42 rear ends (not gears) are going for about $500 depending on condition (miles, etc.)

If you go with a DTE differential (like I did) they will use your differential as a core. I had mine installed for $400. DTE is well known for their differentials and if broken in properly should last for a long time with no noise. I, personally, wanted to by a differential from someone with extensive experience in C5s, rather than have someone with less experience install gears into my existing diff.

Parts: $1300
Install: $400

Problems thus far: Zero

I pull the diff out myself = free.
Bring to Texas Auto Gear for swap = $250.00.
Ring and pinion cost between $330-$600 depending on who you get them from.

I just did another gear swap and everything has be flawless so far. Took 4.10s out and put in 3.42s.

Speaking of which, if you decide to go this route I have a set of 4.10s for sale. $280.00 shipped.

So I learned a couple of things, I think: I can buy gears or a replacement rear end. Just gears seem to cost more in the long run because of the labor to set them up. 3.42 diffs are worth around $4-500 in good condition, but the gears are worth much less.

Someone correct any ignorant statement above, please.

So the question is: which is overall cheaper? Buying a 4.10 diff and selling the 3.42 diff from my FRC (which, I'm assuming is primo because it makes no noises and has been well-treated), or putting a set of 4.10s in the stock 3.42 diff?

Anyone?

Okay, I'll do the math. If you have a place like cajundude that will install gears for $250, then you're looking at $600-$850 for the 4.10 diff. Otherwise it's $1300 for the diff from DTE. I wonder if they'll return your 3.42 ring and pinion gears which you could sell used for a few bucks? I'd guess the labor is a wash in either case.

I am getting DTE to change my 3.42 to 4.10. There is a core charge - so if you want to keep your entire diff it will be $700 - i think. Also, they will return your gears to you - which you can keep or sell.

I figure DTEs stage 1 4.10 diff is $1300 (with core).

The labor to remove swap the diff is $400 Seems like a fair price for labor.

Haven't done an auto but I'm sure it can't be too much different. If I am between installs I can help you but I do have a lot going on with my car right now. Should crank the engine up tomorrow and if all is well I will have to do the break in, this will be a break between installs. Going out of town on the 25th for a crawfish boil at my uncle's house. When do you plan on getting the gears? You are talking about the whole pumpkin right?

Jason, he got the whole pumpkin from me. I shipped it out Monday and he should get it sometime today 02/15. I even went ahead and changed the left side seal and the O ring for him. I might have forgotton to torque the 6 (10mm) left cover bolts. I sent him a message after I realized, so if you are there at the time of install, please torque them left cover bolts to 20lb/ft

Changing a pumpkin out on A4 is pretty much same as MN6
