Default trunk lid won't open enough

As title states, my vert trunk lid won't open far enough. I did a search and saw that '96 325I BMW rear deck stops would fix it. The ones that BMW sold me are too big in diameter. Did they give me the wrong ones or did GM change the size on an '03?

WD-40 sprayed onto the latch will fix it for a while. I just keep spraying it periodically.

Here's what I do with my vert. Pop the trunk lid then roll up the windows, get out and shut the door. The air pressure will pop the trunk high enough to get your finger under it.

I use WD-40 every so often to keep them lubricated.

WD-40 the hinges and latch and it'll work just fine.

Just unscrew the rubber stops a little to add a bit more preload to the lid when it's closed. Try a quarter turn at a time...but don't go to far or it won't close flush anymore. Easy peasy.

That worked for me. Haven't tried the WD 40 yet. They all seem to be this way.

I think you will find if you put a little dishwash soap on the threads it will screw in about 1 inch The trunk lid has a kind of thread pattern but the stops don,t.You will find if you put pressure when you turn them it will start and then it will turn .Its a tight fit but it will work

Default deck stop

Thanks for all the replys.

jjvet

The part that BMW gave me has a hard plastic fitting on top. Maybe for an electrical connection for a trunk open monitor. This plastic part is too big to even start. The rest is made just like the GM stop, but bigger. Maybe, I could cut it off and it would allow me to squeeze the rubber enough to install them.
Thanks,
darkred

I've tried the WD-40 method with Spray Silicone a few times and it only lasts for a week or so... Maybe I'll unscrew the rubber caps now!
