Default somethign is wrong, im lost HELP!!
i read a lot about the column lock, i will sometime get in my 97 auto, and turn the key and nothing happens.. if i get out and wait a while then sometimes it will start, my steering wheel isnt locked even with the key out.. any ideas??

Dirty chip in your key or your battery is on its way out.

Sounds like the recall was done (the first one anyways) ... I would try cleaning the key thoroughly with alcohal , then drink the rest!

sounds like your VATs system is not recognizing the resistor pellet in your key.
First step is to clean the pellet with some brake cleaner or alcohol
