well its my 1st winter with the C5 and when i went to start it today the battery was DOA. i shut the car off on december 1st and on feb 15th when i went to start it the battery was beyond dead. my question is, is this normal for a C5? the battery is a 2 year old AC Delco. i know all the procedures for testing the battery drain and such and i'm probably going to go through through with all the tests. i just didn't think the battery should die in this short of time. am i wrong or does this amount of time without a charge normally kill it? by the way, the Avalanche and the C3 were both off equally as long and they both started.
I bought my '99 in December. Drove it home. Next day it wouldn't start. Did a check and found that the battery was dead. I began to change it. When I disconnected one of the terminals I found that it had corroded to the point that The cable seperated from the end connector. This was a big surprise. Don't know if this helps.
You should be ashamed of yourself. A nice cruze over to see Punxsutawney Phil when he emerged from his hole woulda done you and your C5 a world of good. And you coulda kicked Phils azz when he showed up! 6 more weeks of winter!. I hope you're out and about today!
If I still had a 2 year old Delco battery in my 99 Vette I would get rid of it immediately. The original battery in my 99 leaked and damaged the AC vacuum lines. The replacement battery lasted only 6 months and again leaked, damaging the vacuum lines again. Replaced it with an Optima Red Top battery and had no further problems. Replacement batteries are cheap, compared to cost resulting from a leaking one.
the optima red top seems to be the battery of choice from everyone i have talked to. anybody else on how long the battery should last in the car while parked?
