I have a '97 with the memory option. Both side view mirrors are busted, so I want to replace them. I know the later C5s came with auto dimming side view mirrors. Has anyone with an early C5 tried to upgrade their mirrors to these auto dimming ones? Is it "plug and play", or should I simply try to find one with the memory and heat option?

Not sure about retrofitting the electrochromatics in early C5's, but only the driver's side and interior rear view mirror are dimmable. Not the passenger side mirror.

I saw a car with that and it was really cool, covered the behind and side view.
Those do look cool, but another option in the interest of safety would be to add side repeaters on the front fenders, or even concealed inside the coves, that would tie into the turn signals and flash when you were changing lanes.

It also requires the changing of thedoor harness and the mirror.
I did the rear view mirror and looked into changing the driver's mirror and felt it was to involved and costly for one mirror.
