My '01 w/18k miles has been slowly developing a chirping sound from under the hood. Sounds like a pulley but it's hard to locate. This sound used to occur as I let out the clutch and the engine worked a little harder to get the car rolling (for instance when I would get going slowly up an incline) but now it seems to be happening in idle constantly.
Mine started chirping like a birdie at about 10,000 miles. I sprayed belt conditioner on the main accessory belt (serpentine) and the chirp temporarily
went away. That told me it was a noisy belt. Replaced the belt and no more
chirping (except for my tires)... :D
Hopefully it's the belt. Last time I heard a "chirping sound" it was my waterpump going on my previous C4 Vette (with only 8K on the odometer). Be careful about using any type of spray dressing on the belt...a buddy of mine did this with his '99 Coupe and it caused more problems (belt would stick, then slip, stick, etc.). :yesnod:
