Guys,
Got the vette out today after not being able to use it for the last 6 weeks....couldn't seem to get any good weather. Anyway, I have a 2000 auto, minor mods, stock auto setup. While out today it seemed that sometimes I was not getting the trans to "kickdown" far enough when I puched it between 40-65 mph. The tach would hit 4200 or so continue to climb. Othertimes it would really "kickdown" and it would take off like a bat out of hell Any ideas on what I should focus my attention on? Like I said it feels like a rocketship sometimes other times I feel like its laboring..Thanks!
your car will top out at about 50mph in first gear - so if you are at 40mph, it will go from 4th into 2nd gear - and if it does go back into first, it's only for a 1/2 second before it goes into 2nd - it's programmed to hit 2nd gear first when at that speed - you'll be good to go to 85/90mph in 2nd. Also, if you're accellerating about 1/3rd throttle and you're in 3rd gear at say...50mph, if you gradually accellerate to wide open throttle, you'll stay in 3rd gear until you hit about 120/130.
It's good to go into 2nd gear from 40mph, it's easier on the transmission, and it saves from the shifting latency when going from one to the other.
One thing I've noticed though, if you are slowing down, off the brake/throttle and you get to 40, and you drop the hammer, it will go back into first - but if you're cruising at a consistent throttle position, it will go into 2nd - just wanted to clarify that - sometimes it catches me offguard, and it's normal.
