Will an MTI B1 cam, 221/221, .559/.559, 114 LSA be OK to drop right into an '03 Z06 with no other valvetrain modifications? Other mods to the car are Halltech intake, full SuperMaxx exhaust, ported TB & heads. Any help would be appreciated guys! Thanks.
I would at least get a set of Comp Cams 26918 valve springs (they are only $170-180). You can use your stock retainers. A set of pushrods would be good too. The $249 package that Futral Motorsports sells (26918 springs, hardened pushrods) would be good.
That being said, I personally wouldn't go through the trouble of upgrading from a stock LS6 cam to a 221-duration cam, unless the cam itself was free and you did your own labor. I would go with at least a 224-duration .570-lift cam to make the swap worth it, but thats just my .02. I just got a custom 226-duration cam installed and picked up at least 40ft-lbs of torque from 3700rpm on, with no loss below that, and driveability was unaffected with a good tune.

You DEFINITELY need to upgrade the springs at a minimum to comp 918s and I agree, that such small cam is not worth opening your motor for, and if you do, at least go with the battle tested street performer, 224/224 cam with a .581 lift and 112 to 114 lsa, which MTI also sells as i believe their HAMMER CAM (may be wrong on the name) but now on the cam specs. If not b/c you want your car to handle and idle just like its stock, at leat go with the MTI s STEALTH CAM they offer that makes very good power without effecting stock feel of car!

MTI sells the C2 cam it is 224/224 duration with .581/.581 lift. I would also take a look at the Futral F4 cam. It is 226/226 576/576, it has great street manners and excellent performance.
Well, here's the update. I went with the MTI cam and installed it today. I did upgrade the springs to 918's. 5 runs on the DynoJet averaged 388.1rwhp & 372.2lbft. of torque. 5 runs after the cam and springs netted 409.4rwhp & 393.2lb.ft. of torque. The whole shebang only cost me $500, so it was hard to pass up. I am not really a performance nut, so I am pleased with the results. It really is a mild cam though, you can't even tell the difference from stock at idle, just a little bit of lope. Also changed out the tranny & diff to RP SynchroMax and Max-Gear75w-90 and added Magnecor wires & Koolsox boots while I was at it. A very productive day and a half.
Good job. I'm with you on using smaller cams for the street, better low end torque, no need to rev it to 6500 (or more) for peak power, better gas mileage, and still you've got simular power to the bigger cam guys.
BTW I'm running an even smaller cam: 218/.561" and make pretty good power also: 422/398 sae rw and it sounds like stock

Yeah, I wanted it to be a very good street cam. I appreciate a smooth idle and good gas mileage, but want that little extra power when I feel like it. I really bought the Vette for the looks and handling. Power mods came directly form listening to all the guys on the forum. It was insanely fast bone stock. You have very good numbers. If you think about it, those numbers are quickly approaching the 500hp that the C6Z06 has with the beauty of the C5. Best of both worlds IMHO!!!
