I have a 2000 Automatic. I had the recal done last year. Today, I started it and received the Pull Key message and the Service Column Lock message. The fuel shuts off when I attempt to move it. There are no codes being thrown. Is there any way to alleviate the issue without towing it to a dealer? thanks for the help.
Sorry to give you bad news but my 2000 did the very same thing last week. It had to be hauled to the dealership. The dealership told me it was a security problem with my car in the steering wheel. They order my part and installed it next day. total cost was $313 dollars. It may be part of a recall later in June and told me to keep the bill and if it is part of the recall , I would be reimbursed by GM. The security has to be cleared and reprogramed is the reason it has to be toed. Good luck on the repair.
There are a lot of post in the past few days... GM is sending registered owners letters ... saying you are still covered if it happens to you...here is oneof the threads http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...0&forum_id=103
Thre are at least 6 other threads on the letters that came out last week
Same thing just happened to me after modding,But my car was in the garage.Out of curiosity I checked to to see if the pre owner had done the recall and sure enough found the K haness was in there. So I took it out and hooked it back to normal,Turned the key on and off twice with out starting (Read that in the sticky)and everything was fine. And that night ordered a CLB

I would try reconnecting the actuator first. There is a good chance just the relay in the Harness K has failed.
If you are willing to spend some money to keep from towing your car to the dealer, then you can either go down and purchase a new Harness K kit and install it yourself (then get GM to reimburse you for it), or install an aftermarket column lock bypass (CLB).
I removed the lockplate and installed the Harness K on my 2004 Z06 a couple of years ago and have had no problems. (GM also reimbursed me for the parts and labor to remove the lockplate ) GM did have some problems with the harness kits that superceded the original part number 88952427, so I made sure I got one of the original kits with the black relay. The new part number 89023816 had a white relay that tended to fail prematurely. I am not sure if GM ever resolved the issue with the faulty relays, but I hope they do before they start this recall since it appears the plan is to install these kits on practically all models, including the 6-speed cars like mine. I did to my car what GM is now proposing to do as a recall, where they would not disable the actuators on manual cars before. Since GM already reimbursed me, I am good to go.

I still get $@&^%* mad everytime I think of this GM Dealer Scam. I had the recall, I took My car in and they did the recall even though I never had a problem. When I took the car in to get the window fixed they informed Me the car had a column lock code and ciuld not be moved after the window was repaired. I told them that was impossable because Ithey did the recall, Well, they said I needed other parts. They got me again for a part # 88965331 lock 2 195 at $191.27 and a part # 89023816 harness K 2.195 for $114.04 and then stuck me for about $200.00 laber to install the parts I should not have needed in the first place. I called GM customer service and they were totaly useless and discusting. No wonder GM is having problems. They brought it on their selves. They are thieves and liars and cheat their customers every chance they get.

Try sending in a "written" claim on their "Customer Reimbursement Claim Form". I had no luck talking to a customer representative on the phone either, but I was amazed that when I took the time to send in a written claim, it went through the first time. They paid me for the Harness K kit and even an hour labor to remove the lockplate on my car when this fix was not even covered by a recall at the time (the recall only called for this fix on automatics, not manuals). As a matter of fact, if I had gone to the dealer and told them I wanted the lockplate removed as part of a recall, they probably would have refused to do it.

Yea it was the white relay.I did hook it back up to normal and it works fine. But I ordered a CLB to be on the safe side.AND NO STEALERSHIP IS TOUCHIN MY CAR.Should I still put in the CLB even though its working.I have an 97 A4.
I had the car towed to the dealer today and a faulty column lock relay was replaced for me free of charge. The hardest part was finding a towing company with the proper truck to haul a seriously lowered corvette.

This is the proper way to solve a claim issue with any company. Tell them what happened, how much it cost and how much you want. Works every time there is a valid complaint.
The GM Customer Service people on the phone work for a subcontractor and have no power to do anything about this type of claim. If it isn't in their manual they can't help.
