Convertible Top Repair
There are two small cuts right behind the doors on the top on my 98, about 1.5" long each same place each side. 1. Does anyone know a cheap fix other than replacing the top? Someone suggested that a canvas shop could make just the two quarter panels but for some reason I think that might cost just as much. 2. Is this a common problen and do we know what causes it?
'01 here with 87K miles.... no problems with the top here.
I have not seen a previous post on this topic.
If you are looking for an temporary repair... a canvass shop should be able to put a similar colored patch on the inside and stitch through the top with matching thread ....from 5 feet it should not be noticeable

I had mine replaced under warranty for just that problem. There is a bolt that pokes through. They shorten the bolt and replace the top. I went into the dealer and told them there was a TSB on this problem and they hadn't heard of it. The Service Mgr looked it up and asked when they could schedule the top replacement. They didn't do the job, they sub'd it to a local upholstery / top shop. I would guess your's is too old unless you have a GMPP.
TSB??? what does it stand for. because I have the same problem and do have the warranty still in place.
Take it to the dealer and tell them to look up the TSB (use the term) on the top bolt poking through. My Service Writer didn't believe me and went to get the Service Mgr. He said he'd never heard of it but went and checked. He came back out about 20 mins later and said "You know what you're talking about, when do you want to schedule it?".
