When I got my car the key fob never worked and one day when I was in the chevrolet dealership we tested the fob on a tester and it worked so I figured it was something on the car that was borken. A couple of months later I went throgh the whole Column lock and had to replace my BCM at the same time because it shorted from the steering column lock. Since then I've tried to reprogram the key fob like the manual says but it still doesn't work. Do you think my updated bcm now needs a newer key fob? My car is a 98 maybe say a 99-00 key fob.

I think the key fobs are the same, 97 -00 then 01-04, but I could be wrong, good luck!! Dan
did you try a new battery in the fob? if the battery is low in the fob it may still test as putting out a signal on the tester at the dealer. I ran into this problem, with a fob that would only work if it was right next to the RFA module which is basically behind the drivers seat under the side panel of the hatch area. so it may not detect it with a low battery, but the fob will still test ok on the tester.. (probably because the tester checks for a signal and the proximity of the fob to the tester is right next to each other) SO I would replace the battery in the fob...
UNLESS what you are trying to say is you cannot bring up the FOB training mode through the DIC. Then you may have a different issue. In that case I would start by checking for codes. does the tire pressure sytem read the tire pressure sensors correctly. because the fobs and tps both use the RFA module.
