If an auto your shift points will be off. For an MN6 only the speedometer will be off. Most handheld tuners 3-4 hundred will handle that. The stealership can handle that if they have a good tech. Anybody with EFILive can handle it for the price of a license <100 bucks.
and you'll eventually set the P1870 error code and the trannhy will go into the limp mode.

not correct.
no speedo error on any C5 when changing rear axle ratio.
RstyNutz; going from the 2.73 to 3.15 does give you one option - and that is you can get the reprog done by a Chevrolet dealer using their TechTool 2 (though it won't allow 3.42 or more radical for the A4). My local dealer will do the reprog for $65.

Thank you Mike.
The speedo is on the wheel sensors is what I was told...so no error.
I have it all settled. The place I'm having it installed at will reprogram it for me. I thought of the dealer..BUT was affraid they would reflash the tune.

Rsty,
The speed sensor is a reluctor wheel that is attached to the ring gear in the differential. So, no matter what gear you install the speedometer will always be correct. However, since the trans with your new gear, will be turning faster than the PCM expects, the PCM sees that as slipping and goes into limp mode. Your shift points will also be off. The tuning tools are formulated to take the new gear information and input new parameters for the PCM to see. Have fun with the new gear.

So what if one goes from a 2.72 to 3.42 with an A4? What program could I use to reprogram? I checked with the dealersh!t and they said they could not do it. Where now?

*you could go to a speed shop that has LS1Edit or other reprogramming setups and have them do it for you.
*you could purchase LS1Edit yourself
*you could purchase a Predator handheld programmer (will not work on 1997 and 1998 C5's though)
